Eurocode 5 (EC5): Design of timber structures  
 
- EC5 is a European Timber Construction code replacing all former national building codes for timber.  
- EC5 is used by architects and building construction design engineers.  
- According to EC5 nails must comply with EN14592  
- Only nails which comply with either EN14592 or EN14566 or have a ETA approval can be CE marked.  
- Under EC5 metal fasteners are classified in to three service classes:  
1. Indoors/dry internal  
2. Indoors not heated/external protected  
3. Outside/exposed to weather
