Aberdeen and Aberdeenshire

Traditionally, Aberdeen was home to fishing, textile mills, shipbuilding and paper making. These industries have been largely replaced but their impact on the city is still obvious.

In modern times, Aberdeen has driven the north east to the very top of the UK’s economic growth tables with high technology developments in the electronics design and development industry, food, life sciences and, obviously, the oil industry, powering an economic boom.

Aberdeen Football Club

Ask Aberdonians which sport is most associated with the city and you may find a host of conflicting answers.

The Dons, The Dandies, The Reds or just plain Aberdeen Football Club might be the first call of many – with a history going back more than 100 years to 1903 there are plenty of Scottish football’s most famous names associated with the Club – Craig Brown, Willie Miller, Alex McLeish Gordon Strachan and of course the much loved manager of the 1980s - Alex Ferguson.
